A Shabbos at Westmount

From the first melody
to the final flame.

A Westmount Shabbos is filled with spirituality, community, family and choice. There are many ways to take part—and always a place to feel at home.

Friday night

Welcome the Shabbos Queen.

Every Friday night begins with a Carlebach Kabbalas Shabbos, filled with song and dancing as we welcome the Shabbos Queen into our community.

Shabbos morning

Choose the experience that speaks to you.

Different people connect in different ways, so Westmount offers an unusual range of choices every Shabbos morning.

  • The main minyanA traditional service filled with robust singing.
  • The Dads' MinyanA more efficient, family-friendly minyan with a relaxed welcome for younger children.
  • The Indian Sephardic MinyanA vibrant minyan rooted in the traditions of our Indian Sephardic community.
  • Rebbetzin Gail's classMeaningful learning during davening for those who prefer to connect through a class.
  • Children's programA welcoming place for children to participate and enjoy Shabbos.
Around the table

Torah belongs around the table.

At Westmount, davening is not interrupted by a rabbi's speech. Rabbi Yossi gives his Shabbos talk during the community Kiddush, allowing prayer to remain focused and Torah to be enjoyed around the table. Every week, everyone is invited to a full Shabbos lunch. Wash and join the full meal, or simply sit, eat and enjoy the company—there is no pressure. We sing zemiros for those who wish to sing, and you do not need to prepare lunch at home. The Dads' Minyan learns its Torah over its own Kiddush, with a relaxed l'chaim and conversation.

Afternoon to Havdalah

Come back to learn, sing and share.

Later in the day, we return for Torah and an abundant Shalosh Seudos—with food, singing and beautiful Torah. We then close with a meaningful Havdalah, singing Shabbos out together.

Visitors have told us“There is no place quite like Westmount.”

Caring for one another

Warmth is reflected
in the way we speak.

We want every person to feel safe, valued and respected. During davening, we give tefillah our attention. In our community life, we are careful not to speak negatively about others. Our no-talking, no-lashon-hara standard grows from how deeply we care about one another.
